Rochdale Windows.

A community project in the east of Amsterdam

This work was commissioned by Rochdale, an affordable housing group based here in Amsterdam. Rochdale has been providing housing for individuals and families with relatively low incomes for over 120 years. They do a tremendous job of helping over 80,000 Amsterdam residents find homes.

For this project, I was given the opportunity to turn 2 very large street-level windows into something fun for the community of the east of Amsterdam.

Standing amongst the high concrete buildings and the hustle and bustle of the narrow streets I wanted to create an opportunity for escapism. I thought it would be fun to make ‘Under the ocean’ dioramas, which offered a glimpse into another world.

The windows are located on Christiaan de Wetstraat, Amsterdam, Netherlands, next to a local primary school. I hope the kids will look at these dioramas get excited about what lies at the bottom sea.
